If you notice that your heat pump is running all the time, it could indicate something is wrong. At Xtreme Air, Inc., we can help you identify what’s wrong with your heat pump and offer solutions to get it working again.

YOUR THERMOSTAT IS NOT SET APPROPRIATELY

If your thermostat is set too high in the winter or too low in the summer, it may constantly run as it’s trying to keep your home’s temperature comfortable. First, check your thermostat to ensure the emergency heat mode is not on. Someone may have set the thermostat wrong or bumped into it, activating an incorrect setting and causing a problem.

A DIRTY AIR FILTER

A good portion of the heat pump-related calls we get at Xtreme Air, Inc. result from not cleaning the air filters often enough. If your air filters are not clean, your fuel pump can’t run efficiently. It requires fresh, clean air. Clogged filters force the heat pump to run continuously to keep your home comfortable. The manufacturer’s information will indicate how frequently you should change the air filter. When you contact us for annual maintenance on your air pump, we will check the condition of your air filter, help you change it, and get your heat pump running effectively again.

A DAMAGED CONDENSATE PUMP

If your condensate pump is damaged or unplugged, it won’t operate as it should. Broken parts can cause several problems, including a continuously running heat pump. So first, review the condition of the condensate pump, if you know what to look for, to see if it’s functioning correctly. Then, call us to inspect the unit if you do not know how to check it. If it’s damaged, contact our team at Xtreme Air, Inc.. We’ll see if it’s something that a professional can repair. If not, we can recommend cost-effective solutions.
