It is important to know that it’s perfectly normal for an AC unit to make some noise while running. However, if your AC makes an unusual or loud noise, it could indicate something wrong with the unit. The squeaking noise could come from several different AC unit parts, including the compressor, fan, or ductwork. If you notice your AC unit making a squeaking noise, it’s important to have it checked out by a professional as soon as possible to prevent further damage. Here are some possible reasons why your AC unit may be squeaking.

1. WORN-OUT CONDENSER FAN BEARINGS

The condenser fan is responsible for circulating air around the coils in the outdoor unit. Over time, the bearings in the condenser fan can become worn out, causing the fan to make a loud squeaking noise. If left unchecked, this can eventually lead to the fan motor burning out.

2. LOOSE FAN BLADES

Another possible reason for a squeaking noise coming from your AC unit is loose fan blades. If the fan blades are not properly secured, they can become unbalanced and start to wobble, which will cause a loud squeaking noise.

3. DIRTY AIR FILTER

A dirty air filter can also cause your AC unit to make strange noises. A filthy air filter restricts airflow and puts extra strain on the blower motor, which can cause it to squeal or squeak.

4. FAILING COMPRESSOR

The compressor is one of the most important parts of an AC unit and is also one of the most expensive to replace. If your AC unit is making a loud banging or clicking noise, it could indicate that the compressor is failing.

5. WORN-OUT DUCTWORK

Another possible reason for squeaking noises coming from your AC unit is worn-out ductwork. The ductwork in your home can become damaged over time, which can cause it to make noise when the AC is running. If you suspect that your ductwork is the problem, it’s best to have it checked out by a professional.
